Some of the biggest names in retail had big news this past week. Big box retailers like Walmart and Target will be adding 130,000 seasonal job in anticipation for the holiday rush online. Target is planning to hire 70,000 seasonal employees. This is good news, especially since the company will be relying on stores to fulfill online orders during the second half of the year. Walmart will be adding 60,000 seasonal employees to their current workforce.
Amazon had a big week, especially after a couple of big wins for its show Transparent at the 67th Emmy awards last weekend. In accordance with the success, Amazon announced it will be dropping the price of a Prime membership to $67 for Friday, the 25th. This shaves roughly a third of the cost down from its normal $99 annual subscription. A Prime membership includes free two-day shipping, as well as unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows.
