Last year, the holiday season brought in $658.3 billion in retail sales – a four percent increase from 2015. While sales increased, foot traffic decreased 12.3 percent in November and December. Additionally, more online sales were made on Black Friday than on Cyber Monday in 2016.
For the 2017 holiday retail season, eMarketer expects overall retail growth to slow down to two percent, while eCommerce sales are expected to increase 15.8 percent. Additionally, eCommerce will make up 12 percent of total retail, compared to last year’s 10.6 percent.
